i got two rooms, some experience with linux distributions and some audio equipment like digital converters, amplifiers, guitars, drumset, microphones and a stable PC computing system.

Thats nice because this took me some time.

especially to find out that when you get 8 adat channels over lightpipe, you also have to set the output of a RME digi96 pad PC soundcard to adat output with 8 channels for the jack audio server preferences.

This made my setup to in an out connect an ada8000 analog to adat and vice versa converter with optical spdif. Then the stereo analog channels from the 1st and 2nd of the ada’s 8 outputs are sent  to stereo ins of a 4xheadphone amplifier over XLR which also spreads the signals to a stereo amplifier for loudspeaker signal. the 2 listening channels are routed from ardour’s  master section and i can do all possible realtime effects like rakarack (stunning stable on v0.3),   LADSPA-plugins, Jamin or so with 24 bit 48kHz for every single input channel with a (nearby) unnoticeable latency of  5 ms in stunning quality on low budget. of course i can use the virtual keoyboard from  zynaddsubfx (but this one often kills jack on instrument changes) or hydogen and mix it live into the ardour mixer.

Its fun to maxecho your drums , or chorus, phase or flange your voices or guits to the max in realtime on headphones and/or see frequencies scrolling with baudline. The other good feeling is to no longer be in the terrible need of proprietary software.

one tiny single thing i miss is a rms peak meter for watching overall loudness what is essential for mastering. suggestions are very welcome.

postQC looks pretty nice as an analysis-tool, but i (for now) didnt make it to compile.

for friends of ardour there are good news on the way. ardour will soon support vst-plugins from its upcoming 2.X series binary version what makes the software to one of the best DAW’s around.
